What sleep training method do you use? What approach do you take?
One of my favorite things about my certification program was that we learn ALL sleep training methods! From the (supposedly) gentlest, “no-cry” methods, to controlled crying and extinction. I will not judge you for whatever you want to do- you know yourself and your child best. But, you can be confident that I have plenty of the tools in my tool box, and that together, we will find the one that is the best fit for you, your child, and your family.
How long does it take to see results?
It really depends on what method you choose, your child’s temperament, how ingrained the habits are, and how much you’ve tried in the past. It is not uncommon to see improvements within a few nights, but you should be prepared to be totally consistent with the plan for at least 2 weeks.
Where is your certification from and why does that matter?
I am certified as a baby and toddler sleep consultant through New Zealand-based Baby and Toddler Sleep Consultant Training, an internationally accredited program. I chose this program because of its evidence-based approach, academic rigor, intensive mentoring program, and the continual support that I have with all of my cases. I am not a one-man show- I have a world-wide network behind me that includes pediatric nurses, doulas, lactation consultants, behavioral specialists, biologists, and midwives. We are confident that because of this incredible network, we can tackle sleep problems that no one else has been able to solve.
I’ve tried so many methods on my own, how do I know this will work?
I have been in your shoes- my second child was so hard to sleep train, and I tried many different things before finally “giving up” and hiring a sleep consultant myself. I was so skeptical that it would work, since I had tried everything! But, what did I have to lose besides more sleep? The huge “ah-hah” moment for me was after my (very challenging) baby slept through the night, for the first time in her LIFE, on night 3 (WHAT??), I realized that as much as I had studied and tried things on my own, there was a whole science behind sleep training that I just didn’t know. And I didn’t understand until then that it takes artful application of that science in order to see results. Now, as a certified sleep consultant myself, I have a rigorous assessment process that will help us pinpoint and fine tune details of a plan that you likely haven’t tried before. And I will be there every step of the way (unlimited text and email support available during your care) to troubleshoot, provide accountability and encouragement, and be the emotional support you need to make much-needed changes. Change only happens with consistency, and I’m here to help you do it!
Do you teach classes or speak to groups?
Yes, I love doing that! I can speak on specific age groups, like newborns/infants/toddlers, or on troubleshooting specific problems like baby’s naps or toddlers tantruming at night. Send me a message and we can talk details.
